Review

Edgar Wright has some die-hard fans, and even though I’m not a savant, I definitely think his method of direction is fabulous in this movie. The biggest thing is the MUSIC. This movie is basically just all bangers. There was one bit that looked like a music lyrics video, but still somehow fit into the scene wonderfully. Wonderful. Made use of Baby’s ear trauma masterfully. Then there’s Debora (Lily James), who’s basically cinderella, and pairs really well with Ansel. The supporting cast of John Hamm, Eiza Gonzalez (who are great looking and I can’t believe she has 3 z’s in her name), Jamie Foxx, and Kevin Spacey, all pull their weight and make the movie engaging from start to finish. The pacing is pretty good, there’s some good comedy, a few glimpses of heart, and really really good action. That’s the selling point, and it definitely delivers.

Spoiler Territory

Is it just me, or is Kevin Spacey just meant to be the villain? I totally expected him to be the villain. Anyway, I felt like the step-dad knowing USL was an interesting touch, and it was cool how Baby handled the ending with him. There were quite a lot of endings, and even though they were all pretty satisfying, they didn’t all make sense. Debora waiting five years, the police not arresting Debora with Baby, etc. Still, the ending was cool, and Lily James is awesome, so we’ll let it slide.
