Genre:

Superhero, Drama

Rating:

8.1/10

Audience:

There’s some violence, so pretty much everyone above like 5. Has a cultural message, but is pretty much still a superhero movie, so mainly for those fans.

Rewatch Time:

Didn’t seem too long, even at 2h 15m. Couple times a year should be fine, since the power of the performances shouldn’t start to wear you down.

Winner:

Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan)

Review

There’s nothing like a good superhero movie villain, and Killmonger’s foil-like nature when compared to T'Challa made him perfect as the antagonist. That, and his stylish yet intense arrogance, coupled with a great character story, created one of the best superhero movie villains of yet. The rest of the cast did great as well (Chadwick Boseman, Letitia Wright, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Andy Serkis, Forest Whitaker, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, Lupita Nyong’o), with both Shuri and Okoye balancing amusing and endearing moments with T’Challa, with more dramatic instances. The soundtrack and the direction was exemplary, building into the urban/rural mystical world that they’ve built in Wakanda.

Spoiler Territory

Despite the obvious nature of T’Challa’s return, its execution was conducted fairly well, giving M’Baku some character as well as giving T’Challa’s mother more depth. Bucky’s exclusion was probably a good idea, since the film focused on entirely new characters. Killmonger’s death and final scene with T’Challa was probably one of the best in the movie, showcasing both Jordan and Boseman’s acting abilities.
