Review
Okay, I think it’s impossible for Sacha Baron Cohen not to win in a movie that he stars in. That’s just how it works. But after watching, I can confidently say that I hope this never shows up on TV. Don’t get me wrong, it was obviously entertaining, and it definitely got more than a few laughs out of me, but a fair number of cringes as well. I decided to play it safe and slap it in the Meme, since I’m pretty confident that I’m not rewatching it, and Existent doesn’t do it justice. So yeah, definitely an experience. It’s like the Office meets Deadpool meets the Dictator. I don’t even think an R rating is enough. That said, movie-wise it’s got all the artistic chops - dialogue was memorable (“Ma name Borat”), shooting style was unique, and the plot was definitely something to behold. So yeah, entertaining as ever, but I’m definitely scarred by a lot of the scenes. Meme it is.
Spoiler Territory
Ouch. Yeah, I feel that. I’m really sorry for all those explicit scenes, but if you watch these kinds of movies, I guess that’s a given. The slapstick is always funny, I guess. I didn’t really understand the kazakh, so that was a little meh. The main thing is that I felt like a lot of scenes were so well shot that I wondered if maybe they shot them without telling the extras - like the subway scene - but maybe that’s just me being naive. Either way, extras were phenomenal.
