NOT KIDS. NOT WITH PARENTS. Maybe with friends, if your friends are weird. People who liked the original.
Rewatch Time:
This one’s super specific to 2020, and works best as a one-off. Still 1h30, so can be used as a look-back to Trump-era america.
Winner:
Tutar (Maria Bakalova)
Review
Okay, so I was wrong - someone CAN beat Sacha Baron Cohen apparently. Watching this in 2020 is likely the only option here, and I feel like it manages to convey its political point fairly well without any direct exposition. It’s still weird as hell, and apparently these movies do shoot without scripted extras, so MASSIVE respect to them for being camera-worthy. My main issue with this is that I don’t know whether this is fiction or reality, which worries me a LOT. Otherwise, Tutar as a kid was hilarious, and she’s got a lot of heart that was a nice change-up from the first movie (although this one does borrow a LOT of elements from that one). And it goes without saying that it’s definitely a meme, because if it wasn’t, I don’t really know what I’d do with myself.

Big respect for the movie for actually crashing a Trump rally (with footage of Pence) and managing to get a real Rudy Guilliani interview. The whole COVID-19 plot was pretty funny in the end too. Once again, the religious scenes were the funniest (the church scene from the first one and the synagogue scene from this one) and there was a lot of heart from the women extras. I feel like the abortion scene was pretty funny too, since it was objectively a misunderstanding between the pastor and both of them.
