Review

This movie is 2h long, but it’s really an illusion. They have you in the first half an hour, when Steve first takes the serum, and then the last scene is payoff. Everything in between is very classic - you’ve seen it all before, and it’s worth watching again, but it won’t blow your mind. Still, the bar is pretty high, given the MCU’s reputation now. Evans pulls off Rogers in a way that isn’t appreciated nearly enough (for this movie at least), and it’s impossible not to root for him. He’s not as flashy as the other heroes, but nobody can’t like Cap. As for the supporting cast, Bucky (Sebastian Stan) has a wholesome relationship with Steve, Peggy (Hayley Atwell) is kindred spirit, Red Skull (Hugo Weaving) is an okay foil I guess, but Dr. Erskine (Stanley Tucci) would probably be runner-up in this movie - his role in the start is just so important to drawing the audience in. So there’s nazis and flags and stuff, and it’s a very nice hero’s journey to set up the Avengers.
