Review
This was a good movie, no doubt - I just think that my expectations had been loaded after hearing everyone else’s reviews, and it didn’t feel as mind-blowing as I’d been led on to believe. The theme of remembering family was certainly extremely impactful, and the characters were well-crafted, if a bit annoying. The songs were a highlight, with the acoustic guitar serving as the keystone of the score, with a couple beautiful scenes from Hector. The bridge and guitar design was fabulous to watch, and the idea of ‘spirit guides’ was cool, even if it wasn’t completely necessary. Ernesto’s character was pretty predictable, if one-dimensional, and it might have been a good idea to showcase another aspect of the villain.
Spoiler Territory
Not really spoiler-sensitive.
