Review
I didn't know who Ken Miles and Carroll Shelby were before watching, and now I have such a profound respect for them. Racing is sometimes a niche sport - I always thought it was too dangerous and unrelatable - but it's definitely wonderful to watch in movies. Matt Damon is great as Shelby, and even though Christian Bale's cockney accent was a little surprising, I think he did a phenomenal job as Ken (who I think deserves a lot of the credit here too). Mollie (Caitriona Balfe) is awesome in support, and Peter (Noah Jupe) has some important scenes. The shooting was great, the practical effects were wonderful, and the costumes were definitely awesome. Solid job.
Spoiler Territory
THEY WARNED US! They hinted at it. It wasn't enough. I took such a blow when Ken died, man. That just seemed cruel. And what's worse is that this all actually happened in real life. Honestly that Ford executive dude was the absolute most annoying antagonist I've ever seen - and I mean including Joffrey and Ramsay. The slowing down thing was more insufferable than if he'd crashed out. That voice over and the last scene are really nice though, and I hope the kid has a nice life.
