Review
Although Disney sequels to classics are typically subpar in comparison to its predecessors, Frozen 2 holds its ground quite well, which is impressive considering how good the original is. Elsa was a lot more likeable this time around - and this is coming from an Anna stan - and all of the songs that she was involved in were stellar. Anna's plot wasn't as refined as it was in the first one, but her song at the end of the movie more than made up for it. Kristoff, Olaf, and Sven were decent comedy aids, keeping the tempo of a generally somber movie relatively upbeat, while managing to not disrupt its tone. The main issue with this film, though, was pacing. The movie spends most of its time setting up its character conflicts instead of developing them, so the ending is forced to tie everything together with a neat little bow. Frozen II's final half hour or so felt a bit disjoint from the rest of the movie because of that.
Spoiler Territory
The movie's premise itself was a lot more interesting than I had thought it would be, and full credit is due to the scriptwriters. The whole plot line with the mother was really cool too, so much so that I was considering giving her the win over Elsa, despite her lack of actual presence in the movie. Even though it was obvious, the resurrection of both Elsa and Olaf simultaneously was pretty off-putting, but the final proposal made the feels seem requited. The water-horse was pretty cool too.
