Review

Gotta love Jumanji, huh? This movie is always going to be thought of in terms of the first movie (Jumanji: Into the Jungle), whose blending of cast in the ‘real' and video-game worlds made a uniquely impactful movie that was also fun to watch repeatedly. This movie has that too, just to a lesser precedent. The emotional quotient was kept high throughout, with solid acting from Danny DeVito, Danny Glover, and Alex Wolff, while the action is handled by Dwayne Johnson and Karen Gillan, leaving the comedy to Kevin Hart and Jack Black. Suffice to say, the cast speaks for itself in terms of competence, and they definitely have chemistry too, with everyone doing what they were expected to, and also working a little outside of their comfort zones. The world was also enhanced from the previous movie, while not seeming much like a ret-con, which was also a welcome addition to the story and continuity of the movies. The grievances lie mostly in that it tried to do a lot, and that the execution was a bit less on-the-nose as it had been in the previous movie. Overall, still a fun watch.

Spoiler Territory

The horse thing was a bit much, and the pegasus thing was sufficiently much. Again, the viking villain guy was pretty bad, meaning that they really didn't learn from their mistakes from the last movie. They lost way too many lives throughout, and Milo's (Danny Glover) way of talking was proper annoying.
