Review

I do have to say, this movie was a lot better than I thought at first. It started pretty slow, and I thought it was really boring, but as soon as the plot started, it was hard not to be interested. The main reveal and the interactions between the main characters were definitely something to watch. Sam Rockwell is a better actor than I thought before, and Kevin Spacey does an okay job with Gertie (who was pretty cool). Plot was good, if a little ambiguous, and the pacing was probably the best thing about the movie. The cautionary message about the potential of future technology is also well put, and I think the movie did well to find as much heart as it did.

Spoiler Territory

This movie was BUILT on spoilers. So obviously the first big reveal was that the guy he saved was also him - there were a few ways to go from there, but it was easy to be interested already. Then the realization that they were clones, along with the pretty real reactions from both of them. The idea that the Tess (Dominique McElligott) and Eve (Kaya Scodelario) messages were actually from the past was heartbreaking to watch when Sam talks to older Eve, so that was well done. It's also refreshing to see that the computers aren't the villains for once - Gertie can take a bow. Then the idea that there were tons of clones there was also pretty scary, and I feel like the ending was the best way to handle the situation and characters respectfully.
