Review

LETS GET DOWN TO BUSINESS. That song will never not be awesome. Overall, this movie's pacing - and most Disney classic movies' pacing - is probably what makes them so great. There's always something happening, and there's great comedy in between important plot points. Grandma Fa (June Foray) was hilarious in every single line she spoke, and Mushu was a blessing. Take the win. Mulan's parents weren't outlandishly traditional or anything, and their reactions to everything were fairly believable. The villain was a little cartoonish, but it kinda is a cartoon, and the huns were so broken in terms of military strength that it might have been hard for people to look past that. Shang was cool too, and apart from his great song, Reflection was really important in terms of driving the plot.

Spoiler Territory

Ah, Disney. 2D animation can be really powerful, and that scene with the reflection really pulled through. Also when she took her dad's armor to go to war… that was great. Mushu's whole secret guardian plot was pretty smart, and the ancestors were all quite funny also. It was good to see that the emperor was forward-thinking, even if that seems a little idealistic. Still great.
