Review

Just rewatched, and surprisingly enough, it's pretty much the same as I remember it. Holland was great as Peter once again, obviously, and both Happy (Jon Favreau) and Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) were great as supporting cast. Betty (Angourie Rice) and Ned (Jacob Batalon) were cute, Nick Fury (Sam Jackson) and Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) were fun too. MJ (Zendaya) wasn't actually as iconic as in Homecoming, and she seemed a little too uncomfortable. The theme was great, and the plot was fine, but I felt like there was a little left to be desired from the story even though it ticked most of the right boxes—maybe I was looking for the same kind of heart that was in the first movie. Jake Gyllenhaal wasn't bad either, but Tom Holland (and EDITH) really did have to carry this movie.

Spoiler Territory

So Beck's a villain. Pretty much everyone figured that, and I think even though it was obvious, his hero scenes were so much better than his villain scenes that I guess we kinda wished that he was a real hero. Then the business with Fury and Hill being Skrulls is cool but a little confusing, given that we don't really know what they're trying to do with that. Anyway, Iron Man's shadow doesn't just still rest over the MCU universe, but even their actual films, and I feel like he was the center of the story without even having been there. Not exactly ideal for the future of the universe. But again, Holland was cool. J Jonah Jameson's cameo was awesome, and the cliffhanger was great.
